Jellyfish are males or females and as adults, are medusoids. They reproduce by the males creating sperm from their gonads and releasing them through their mouths. The sperm would then go into the female's mouth and fertilize one of her ova. The egg is then released and it sinks. The egg turns into an embryo which is called planula. This planula makes its way down to the bottom of the sea. It then attaches to the seafloor and turns into a polyp, which has a polypoid shape. It can then reproduce asexually through budding. Budding happens usually in the spring where a little part of the polyp is released and lands on the seafloor. The bud then turns into another polyp. Instead of asexually reproducing, the polyp can also create grooves. The grooves keep getting bigger until tentacles appear facing upwards. The grooves will then separate and become their own jellyfish.
