Chelonia mydas or Green Turtle
After being fertilized, green turtle eggs are delivered by their mother into a hole she has dug a little off the shore of where the mother came up from. The mother leaves these eggs to survive on their own, trusting that her babies will make it to the ocean. The mother lays about 75 eggs each "clutch", but only a few will make it to the ocean. In the short amount of time it takes to get from being hatched to entering the ocean, the baby turtles are extremely vulnerable to their predators since they are new born they cannot defend themselves very much.
