Reproductive System of Coral
Coral can reproduce asexually and sexually. They reproduce asexually by a process called budding. Budding is when a little bit of the coral comes off, travels through the ocean, and lands somewhere else. When it hits the ocean floor it will grow again into a full organism. Coral also reproduces through spawning, which is when the gametes are released into the ocean and get fertilized in the water. Once fertilized, they turn into a larva known as plankton. They are reproduced in great number because the mortality rate of coral is very high. They then create colonies as they settle next to each other. The plankton then turn into coral.
