Reproductive System of Garden Snail
Snails are hermaphrodites. This means that they produce both sex gametes. Their mating dance is very long and can take up to twelve hours.
At first, the snails begin to dance back and forth together. They then use a sharp spear known as the love dart and poke each other, yet it is uncertain what the purpose of it is. The love dart has mucus on it that doubles the sperms chance of successfully producing offspring. They then align themselves next to each other to have intercourse. Both snails lay about 80 eggs 3 to 6 days after mating. They bury the eggs in a hole an inch deep.
