Emperor Penguins
The penguin breeds throughout the year, but has the shortest breeding cycle, which lasts about 50 days. They may take three to eight years to reach sexual maturity. During the emperor's breeding season, the temperature may drop to -76 degrees Fahrenheit with winds that could be up to 120 mph. These conditions make mating very difficult for the emperor penguins as well as keeping the eggs warm once they were delivered from their mothers. |
